The literal bottom line of my camera rigs!
If you operate camera rigs, you’ll almost certainly have experienced situations where you need to place the camera on the ground. You’ll also have experienced situations where placing your rig on the ground has led to scratches on your base plates.If that’s the case, you will benefit from this NICEYRIG plate!Let’s begin with the positives, before mentioning the only negative I’ve experienced with this plate.Positives:- Pretty light compared to other plates of around the same size- Supports 1/4-20 AND 3/8-16 mounting screws in whatever combination you require.- Can be mounted to a frame rail and used solely as a base plate, meaning you can slide the plate forward and backwards on frame rails to balance the rig above it perfectly.- You can put the rig down on the ground, and it will free-stand properly, without scratching your metal plates.- It has an Arca Swiss compatible rail at the bottom, meaning you can mount it directly to any Arca Swiss tripod or other compatible system (this is particularly suited with the Peak Design Travel Tripod, by the way… you can attach and detach the entire rig from the tripod in 10 seconds or less)- Additional mounting at both the front and rear of the plate means you can attach cable clamps or any other small parts to the plate as necessary.Okay, so plenty of positives… now let’s look at the one negative:The rubber feet leave marks EVERYWHERE!It’s a small gripe, especially as the marks wipe off easily… but even after MONTHS of use, I can’t put the plate down on any surface without it leaving black smudges from all 4 feet.Yes, you CAN peel off the rubber pads and swap them with your own, but I just wanted to mention that this is the only thing about this plate that I would love to see improved. Otherwise, it’s perfect for the job!
