Proxinova 20×20 cm Plasterboard Access PanelThis access panel is quite substantial and has a bit of weight about it.This panel fits underneath the plasterboard, therefore it needs fixing flush with the stud wall prior to the wall having the plaster board fixed. The door part comes with a plasterboard panel which will require skimming to cover the screw heads and also bring the surface flush with the aluminium edging. When the wall is completed, there will be only two thin aluminium edges visible all round.A nice touch is that there is a felt type draught strip fixed to the door panel edge. The door of the access panel opens by pushing on the door panel (opposite side to the hinges) to trigger the release. It also requires a firm push to close it again. When the door is open, it is very easy to remove it completely. Simply by squeezing towards the centre, the spring loaded hinges. There is also a safety cable to stop the door form opening past 45 degrees without releasing the cable catch. This is probably for safety reasons when ceiling mounted.I am not sure how well paint will adhere to the thin aluminium edging, but it is only going to be a 2mm to 3mm wide strip that will be visible. When decorating is complete this door will be flush with the surrounding surfaces.

I’ve got several access holes which I cut into a stud wall when I was replumbing the house, enabling me to isolate multiple runs of pipework… and, twelve years later, they’re still just holes, and although they’re only in my “man cave” tool room/spare toilet, they annoy me.Suddenly, within one week, two different access covers popped up for review on Vine, so I grabbed them both. The first one you simply stick over the hole with glue or even double sided tape; the surrounding frame sits proud of the wall. A quicker, easy fix. This one is the heavier, pro version; well engineered, far more complicated (in a good way), and sitting flush with the surface of the wall to create something as invisible as it can be once overpainted, for which its surface is designed. However, this also means that it’s not designed for retrofitting; it has to be installed on the inside (service/non-visible side) of your wall, ie at the point of construction. So it won’t really work in my specific situation. That’s not in any way a criticism, it’s just so you know. This is a quality product, and if you’re in the design phase of your project well worth incorporating into your plans. The door within the frame is easy to open and also completely removable for better access: and – evidence of its professional design – incorporates safety cables so that you can’t accidentally drop it on your wife’s head while she’s holding the ladder beneath you.Highly recommended.

I ordered this to hide our water shut off tap in a soffit within are converted basement. I didn’t want a visible handle or lock for the panel and also wanted it to be tool-free access so that in an emergency one could very quickly open it and turn off the water. This panel manages both of those quite well. The fact that he uses moisture resistant plasterboard also means that it’ll survive well down in the slightly moist conditions of a basement. There is a large metal flange that’s used for securing the panel into the surrounding plasterboard. I would recommend you use some spring clamps as the flanges not pre-drilled. So you will need a self-drilling plasterboard screw to go through your plasterboard and then into the metal flange behind. The spring clamp can therefore hold the two together so that the incoming screw doesn’t push the flange out of the way.I like that there’s a little metal clip and wire in place when the panel is open. It doesn’t fall completely open and that you’ve got the two push latches to keep it closed without any visible fasteners. However, it does mean that you need to get both of the push latches to latch at the same time, which can be a little bit of an issue as long as you press on both of those corners as the panel goes up at the same time it will latch. It’s just a little more awkward than perhaps it needs to be.Overall, it’s much better options than plastic access panels that sit on top of the surface as this sits nice and flush and apart from a very small join line between the plasterboard and the panel, it’s almost indistinguishable once painted
