I got this to punch holes in a large piece of tarpaulin which will cover my garden furniture and the like to help protect them from the coming winter.The tarpaulin has eyelet punching into the four corners but I wanted more holes along the edges without weakening the tarpaulin itself. And this is where this tool comes into its own.It’s remarkably easy to use and doesn’t take much effort in punching through material.Firstly, choose the right jigs for the size of the hole you want. Slide the jigs into the top and bottom. screw the jigs in place using the thumb screw (lower) and hex key (upper)Once you’ve got the jigs in place you then push the washer onto the top edge of the clamp, placing the grommet on the lower part.Then you slide the material you want to punch through between the top and bottom and, once in place, squeeze the handles together… that’s it. The eyelet and grommet squeeze together trapping the material in the middle. This leaves a strong ring of metal around the hole of the material.For thicker material which the pliers may struggle through you can use the hole punch which comes in the box. As I was only punching though 2 layers of tarpaulin I didn’t have to pre-punch the hole.The metal of the many pieces is nice and strong, and you get a lot of pieces of different sizes, from 5.5mm to 10mm.In all, a fan eyelet puncher kit with all you need to punch grommets and eyelets which adds strength to such things as tarpaulin and other materials. It’s easy to use and the holes are framed by the strong, yet lightweight metal rings.Well worth the £48.99 price tag, especially with all the bits you get and the quality of the machine itself.

Fitted these in a tarpaulin and it’s been in place about 2 months, sat outside that whole time. Grommets are already rusting so they’re really not fit for purpose.The device itself is good. The hole punches work well and the unit fits them quite securely, just disappointed that the grommets wont last more than a few weeks outdoors.
