THE WDT TOOLI’ve owned five or so WDT tools over the years and this is the first one where I’ve had a genuine safety concern. The prongs aren’t the usual blunt stainless pins — they’re sharp. Extremely sharp. They look like they could be repurposed syringe or acupuncture needles, and I nearly stuck all of them into my hand without thinking about it. The housing itself is actually quite nice, which makes the needle choice even more baffling. You might not be able to see clearly in the attached photos but they are very, very sharp.THE KNOCK BOXHard to get a knock box wrong, and this one is mostly fine. The stainless steel is a bit rough around the edges and has the durability to last for a while. It’s also big enough for quite a few pucks. The non-slip base works. The problem is the bar: it’s wrapped in what looks like a section of black garden hose. It has a slightly sticky, glazed texture that gets worse once coffee oils build up on it. Not pleasant to clean and not pleasant to look at after a few days of use. And it just screams “cheap”.THE RESTThe cloth that came with it smelled really weird Not damp, not musty, just… chemical. It’s not what you want to smell when you’ve bought something new. The brush is fine but it’s essentially a makeup brush. It does sweep grounds but don’t expect something that feels like a brush for your coffee equipment.OVERALL❌ At just under £15 it scrapes by on price alone, but the sharp WDT needles are a real concern and the knock bar coating is poor. Pay a bit more and get something better.
