My previous WiFi adaptor was an aerial that stood 25cms tall and was connected to my desktop computer via a 1.5M cable and the aerial was positioned carefully, in a clear space, to attain the optimum download speed from my hub that is fed by fibre. I could not believe the speeds achieved by this AX900 WiFi 6 Mini USB Adapter that I plugged directly into the USB port of my desktop, which is positioned under my desk! I recorded a download speed of 99.99Mbps with my old adaptor just prior to swapping to the AX900. Installation only took a few minutes and I tested the speed straight away – 338.97Mbps! And in tests that I’ve carried out each day during the first week of use I’ve recorded speeds in excess of 300Mbps! This is an excellent bit of kit!

My problem was frequent dropping of the WiFi on a laptop with inbuilt wireless at 2 GHz when router firm set to 5ghz. Setting dongle to accept 5 GHz did not solve the problem. Not doubting quality but on this acciasion not successful..

I have used the Debian based MX Linux 23.6 for this Brostrend AX900 USB Dongle and have managed to get it working quite easily on 2 computers. My current kernel is based on 6.1. but I understand that 6.2 has the built in driver -but I haven’t tried that. Instructions to download my driver for 6.1 are available with Brostrend, but are a bit hidden. There is a one line command line instruction available to install the driver and update the repository for updates, but I can’t put it here as Amazon doesn’t allow links on reviews. It takes a little while for the driver to be built – so you need to be patient. You then need to re-boot to put it into effect. Other instructions I have found can be very lengthy – so I avoided those. The resultant speed of my internet connection via wi-fi on my PC was dramatic – over double what I was getting. It brought my speed up to that within my ISP’s package. And now the caveat – there are reports that further updates on the kernel can stop the install on the new kernel – but I can’t vouch for that, although those reports refer to older kernels that I am using. I am awaiting an updated kernel from MX to see what happens afterwards.
